In February 2004, Mary Anne was undergoing a routine annual medical examination when her doctors found carcinoma cells.“I felt like I was on a roller coaster and we were screaming toward the bottom,” she said. Through surgery, it was determined that she had Stage IIc ovarian cancer. Mary Anne immediately started chemotherapy.

"When you have cancer, you have little control. Training for an event and raising money has helped me to feel in control of my own life again,” she said. In 2007, Team Mary Anne raised a record-breaking $23,000 for the Marsha Rivkin Center. “Doing something physical and raising funds for research has been a huge part of my recovery,” she said.

Mary Anne was our 2008 Swedish SummeRun Survivor Honoree. Her team, Team Mary Anne, raised over $47,350 last year and has raised over $50,000 to date this year.
